EC Diamond Warriors Sweep Southwest (TN) in Opener

Season action began on a positive note for East Central Community College’s baseball team, which recorded a pair of victories over Southwest (TN) Community College Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex on the Decatur campus.

The Diamond Warriors posted a 3-0 shutout in the opener and cruised 8-3 in the nightcap.

Tim Anderson led EC at the plate in the first game by pounding three hits and scoring twice. Anderson tripled in the third inning, doubled in the fifth and singled in the seventh.

Anderson, an All-Region 23 and MACJC All-State selection in 2012, is a product of Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa.

Other hitters were Rubert Alcantara of Saint George High School in the Dominican Republic, two singles; and Kalik May of Tuscaloosa County High School and Ryan Shotts of Louisville, singles each.

Maxwell Harmon of Enterprise was credited with two RBIs and Chase Domino of Fairhope (Ala.) High School knocked in a run.

Southpaw Caleb McKee picked up the win, allowing just one hit through 4 2/3 innings of work. McKee also fanned five batters and walked three. He is a product of Neshoba Central High School.

In the second contest, Anderson was again the leading slugger as he blasted three home runs and a triple. He finished with five RBIs and scored four runs.

Other hitters were May, two singles; McKee and Jake Bush of Brookwood High School in West Blocton, Ala., doubles each; and Domino, John Morgan Berry of Madison Central and Terrence Steele of Neshoba Central, singles each.

May, McKee and Berry were also credited with an RBI each.

Right-hander Blake Dubuisson was the winning pitcher. He allowed two runs on seven hits through five innings. He also fanned four batters and walked two. Dubuisson is a product of Long Beach High School.

East Central’s matchups with Alabama Southern and Northwest MS scheduled Tuesday, Feb. 12, have been cancelled due to the weather. The EC/Northwest contest is rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 15 (weather permitting) beginning at 3 p.m. at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex.

The Diamond Warriors are led by head coach Neal Holliman and assistants Justin Brewer and Jack Edmonson.
