NEMCC GOLF CARDS EIGHTH PLACE FINISH IN SEASON-OPENING MATCH

Booneville, Miss., --Northeast Mississippi Community College men's golf program kicked off the spring sports season with a consistent showing in the first Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC) tour stop of the year.
Northeast, under the direction of first-year head coach Nick Coln, shot back-to-back 348s for a two-day 696 at the Diamondhead Country Club's Pine Course in Bay St. Louis.

Northeast finished eighth in the tournament against fellow MACJC opponents.

Host Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College rallied on the second day to claim the first tour stop of the year. Mississippi Gulf Coast improved 11 strokes from day one to day two (316-305) in claiming a three-stroke win over Copiah-Lincoln which finished with a two-day 624 (314-310).

Northeast trailed Jones County Junior College and finished ahead of Hinds and Holmes community colleges by 24 and 41 strokes, respectively.

Sophomore Ty Lindsey of Baldwyn led the way for the Tigers with a two-day 168 and finished tied for twenty-second overall.

Jordan Wilson improved on the second day to finish in a tie for twenty-ninth overall after a two-stroke improvement on day two (87-85) for a two-day 172.

Freshman Jay Swinney of Booneville finished in a tie for thirty-eighth overall with a two-day 179 (89-90) while Payton Dunlap of New Albany was just three behind Swinney with a 182 two-day total (87-95).

Corinth's Blake Farris wrapped up the scoring for the Tigers with a two-day 186 and improved two spots on the second day with a forty-eighth place finish with a six-stroke improvement 186 (96-90).

Following the season-opening event, Northeast will now wait a month before stepping on the course at Eagle Ridge Golf Club on March 2-3 before embarking on a one-day stop at Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Wesson on March 17.

Northeast's stop at Wolf Hollow will be a long day for the Tigers as the one-day stop will see the Tiger linksters play a 36-hole one-day affair.

Coln's crew returns to north Mississippi for its fourth tour stop of the year when the Tigers make the short trek over to Southaven and Olive Branch on March 25-26.

On March 25, the Tigers will play an 18-hole affair at the North Creek Golf Club before heading over to Wedgewood Golf Course in Olive Branch on March 26 to wrap up the two-day event.

Northeast's fifth Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC) tour stop of the year will see the Tigers stay above the Interstate 20 corridor as Coln and company head to East Mississippi for two days on the Mississippi State University Golf Course in Starkville April 7-8.

Following its tour stop on April 7-8, the Tigers will have a week to prepare for the MACJC State Tournament hosted by Jones County Junior College.

This year's state tournament is slated for April 14-15 at Dixie Golf Course in Laurel with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XXIII Tournament following the next week on the Azaleas Golf Course at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia.
