MGCCC golf takes MACJC 2013 opener

BAY ST LOUIS---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College made up a two shot difference to take control and win the MACJC golf opener Feb. 3-4 at Diamondhead Country Club.

The Bulldog golf team, now winners of seven straight MACJC regular season events dating back to 2012, shot 316-305 (621) and finished three shots ahead of first round leader Co-Lin 314-310 (624). East Mississippi, East Central, and Northwest rounded out the top five teams.
MGCCC sophomore Brad Thornton earned the tournament’s Low Medalist honor after firing rounds of 74-73 (+3). Gulf Coast freshman Hayes Weathersby (80-72) took fourth place, while Jake Pritchard (82-80), Gabe Ahlers (84-80), and Adam Ham (80-84) all finished in the top 15.
Gulf Coast, the reigning MACJC and Region 23 Champions, will compete in the Elizabeth King Memorial Feb. 17-18 in Fairhope, AL before returning to MACJC action Mar. 2-3 at Hinds.
