CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. --- Paced by a game-high 16 points from sophomore center Amanda Pierce, the Prairie State College women’s basketball team ran its unblemished Illinois Skyway Conference record to 4-0, courtesy of a 67-47 win over McHenry Tuesday evening.

Tuesday’s victory also bumped PSC’s regular season mark to 10-7.

Pierce was one of four Pioneers to reach double figures in the scoring column.

Prairie State also picked up strong efforts from sophomore guard Tira Ollie (Englewood H.S.), (11 points, 3 rebounds), freshman guard Nijea Dixon (Joliet Central H.S.), (10 points, 7 rebounds) and freshman guard Shanterra Jones (10 points, 5 rebounds).

Sophomore center Danielle Zandstra (Heritage Christian H.S., Ind.) also delivered a solid performance, snagging a team-high eight rebounds, she also blocked three shots and made off with a trio of steals.

Sophomore point guard Latoi Merriweather (Merrillville H.S., Ind.) also picked up seven steals and secured seven rebounds.

Despite the lopsided score, things didn’t exactly go smoothly for the Pioneers in the early going as PSC struggled to establish a substantial first-half lead and went to the locker room in a 27-all deadlock.

Prairie State would go on to outscore the Scots 40-20 over the course of the contest’s second 20 minutes however.

PSC established its largest lead at 66-46 with with 46 seconds remaining when Dixon connected on a free throw.

The Pioneers will now face Elgin Thursday at the PSC Field House (5 p.m.).
