No. 8 Lady Senators rout Georgia Perimeter, 84-50
 January 21, 2013

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – The eighth ranked Walters State Lady Senators made short work of the visiting Georgia Perimeter Lady Jaguars Monday afternoon, rolling to an 84-50 victory inside ‘Z’ Buda Gymnasium.
The Lady Senators had four players reach double figures and shot 50 percent from the field in the win, as they improved to 17-1 on the year with their 11th straight victory.

The loss dropped the Lady Jaguars to 10-9 on the year.

Georgia Perimeter’s Ronita Garrett kept the Lady Jaguars within striking distance for most of the first half, but the lack of a second scoring threat against the Lady Senators constant pressure defense allowed Walters State to pull away.

The Lady Senators got back-to-back 3-pointers from Bre Hall to put them up 13-4 five minutes into the game, and Donnesha Shuler helped Walters State build to lead to 25-15 with 7:48 left in the half.

Caprisha Rogers nailed a triple, Shuler had a pair of layups and Hall nailed another 3-pointer and a breakaway layup to push the lead to 39-21 late in the half. A steal and bucket by Shuler in the final seconds of the opening half gave the Lady Senators a 41-25 cushion at halftime.

Walters State shot 45.9 percent (17 of 37) in the first half, including 4 of 13 from behind the 3-point line. The Lady Senators had just five turnovers and dished out 12 assists in the half, with Rogers leading with four.

Shuler and Hall both tossed in 11 points in the half, while Rogers added seven points for WSCC.

The Lady Jaguars made just 34.8 percent (8 of 23) from the field in the first half, but they also made 8 of 12 from the free throw line. Garrett had 15 points in the half, with the rest of the team making just two shots from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

Georgia Perimeter got a pair of free throws from Brittany McKinney to open the second half, but they only made one field goal in the opening 12 minutes of the frame.

The Lady Senators never missed a beat in the final 20 minutes, as they used the long field goal drought by the Lady Jaguars to roll off a 26-7 run to take a 67-32 lead with 8:30 left to play.

Georgia Perimeter briefly cut the lead to 27 but never got any closer, as Aisjah Roan did the bulk of the scoring down the stretch to expand the lead in the final five minutes.

Walters State ended the game shooting 50 percent (34 of 68) from the field, and they controlled the boards, 43-29.

Shuler led the Lady Senators with 21 points, while Roan added 12 and Hall and Rogers had 11 in the win.

The Lady Jaguars shot 35.4 percent (17 of 48) from the floor, and Garrett paced GPC with 25 points in the defeat.

The Lady Senators will return to action Friday when they host Tennessee Community College Athletic Association rival Dyersburg State inside ‘Z’ Buda Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
