Martin ties single game rebounding record as Texans rout Chandler
 January 4, 2013

MESA, Ariz. – Ryan Martin tied the Texan record for rebounds in a game with 20, while also adding 12 points and five blocks to help the South Plains College Texans snap a two-game losing streak as they doubled up on the Chandler-Gilbert College Coyotes 70-60 Wednesday afternoon to complete a three-game road trip in the Phoenix area.

Martin tied Reggie York, who also pulled down 20 boards during a game versus New Mexico on March 9, 1998.

South Plains (11-2) struggled to a 29-22 halftime lead, but then outscored the Coyotes 41-13 in the second half to run away from their opponent.

Roderick Lawrence and Yanick Moreira led all scorers with 13 points each and Darrell Lucky added 12.

As a team, South Plains made 26-of-66 shots from the field and outrebounded the Coyotes 51-39.

The victory not only gets South Plains back on the winning track, but also is their final test before travelling to Roswell, N.M. Monday, Jan. 7, where they will begin play within the Western Junior College Athletic Conference against the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time.

Following the league opener, South Plains will host Midland College Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7:45 p.m. before a big matchup versus No. 2 Howard College Saturday, Jan. 12 at 3 p.m.
