VU Women's Basketball falls to State Fair in season home opener, 81-46
 November 20, 2012

The Vincennes Women's Basketball Team fell behind early and was never able to make up the deficit Tuesday night in dropping an 81-46 decision to State Fair in the Trailblazers' home opener at the VU P.E. Complex.
Freshman Chelsea Jellison led VU with 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and sophomore Zhanna Chukhrii had 10, partially fueled by a pair of treys.

The Roadrunners' were led by freshman Antoinette Taylor's 21, while freshman Asia Mosley tallied 16 and sophomore Mia Wesley and freshman Adella Randle-El both had 15.

When Jellison picked up a loose ball on a State Fair turnover and scored in transition for the first VU points of the night, it appeared that the Trailblazers had the Roadrunners measured. However a slow shooting start for the Trailblazers (2-5) did away with any potential VU had early on. By the 12:37 mark in the first, State Fair led VU 22-8.

The Trailblazers heated up some and employed a zone defense that curtailed State Fair's ability to get to the rim. A VU run on offense helped get the hosts within striking distance at 39-28 late in the half, but two straight late buckets by State Fair sent the Roadrunners to the half with a 44-28 lead.

Chukhrii scored the first points of the second half but, over the first eight minutes of the second half, State Fair extended the lead to 64-38, en route to the final margin.

The Trailblazers return to action Saturday, hosting Olney Central at 7 p.m. at the VU P.E. Complex. The No. 5 VU Men's Basketball Team then faces Lincoln Land after the ladies' game. The men's game is set for 7 p.m.
