Bobcats win second consecutive overtime game

CLARKSDALE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats improved to 5-0 with a 74-70 overtime victory over Coahoma Community College here Thursday night at the Pinnacle.

It was the second straight OT win for JCJC. The Bobcats downed Northeast Mississippi 75-66 on Monday at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.

In the women’s game, Coahoma broke a 59-59 tie with a free throw with four seconds to play and edged JCJC, 60-59. The Lady Bobcats are now 2-2.

The Bobcat teams will travel to Meridian Community College on Monday with the women’s game set for 6 p.m. and the men’s game to follow at 8 p.m. The next home action for JCJC will be on Nov. 26 against Alabama Southern Community College. The women’s game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m.

Bobcats 74, Tigers 70 (OT)

JCJC led 41-32 at halftime, but Coahoma battled back and would eventually tie the game at 63-63 at the end of regulation. However, the Bobcats would dig down and come up with the victory in the extra session.

Dontavious Lewis led the Bobcats with 18 points, while Wesley Bell-Blackmon added 14 and Detrick Davis and J.J. Bolton followed with 10 each.

Alex Thompson had 18 and Jonathan Ankston added 14 for Coahoma, 1-3.

Lady Tigers 60, Lady Bobcats 59

Coahoma led 33-31 at halftime. CCC led 59-55 late before JCJC came back and tied the score at 59-59.

The Lady Tigers got the ball to Bridgett Griffin, who was fouled. She made one shot to give CCC the lead and the Lady Bobcats were unable to respond.

Kaylan Hughes led JCJC with 13 points, followed by Keoshya Wilson with 12 and Precious Jefferson with 10.

Griffin had 17 for Coahoma, 1-2. Breanna Wiley followed with 12 and Tamora Shelton had 10.

Coahoma’s next game will be at home on Nov. 27 vs. Arkansas Baptist.
