NJCAA Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Nov. 1-11
November 14, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Shelby Key (Harford CC, Md.), Courtney Murphy (Oakland CC, Mich.) and Rebekah Aase (Riverland CC, Minn.) have been named NJCAA women’s basketball players of the week for games up to Nov. 11.
Excelling on both ends of the floor, Key’s versatility spurred the Fighting Owls on to three victories last week. Routing all three opponents, Harford benefited from Key’s efficient shooting, court vision and relentless defensive pressure. The sophomore averaged 19.3 points, 8.3 assists and 7.7 steals per game on the week. Key’s top performance came in a 113-35 blowout of Atlantic Cape CC (N.J.) where she totaled 27 points, 13 assists and 11 steals for a triple-double.
Murphy led the Raiders offensively last week with an outstanding effort against Grand Rapids CC (Mich.). The freshman scored 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting, knocking down all four of her three-point attempts. Murphy added six rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Raiders edged out a 79-77 victory.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 record to start the 2012-13 season behind Aase’s three double-double performances last week. In a narrow 65-64 win over North Iowa Area CC, Aase dominated the glass with 25 rebounds. The sophomore put up gaudy numbers on the week, averaging 20.6 points, 19.6 boards and 3.0 assists per game.
