Northwest Lands Five on Capital One Academic All-District Team

ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomores Austin Douglas, Cor'tez Hibbler, Danterrius Young, Chase Carpenter and J.D. Fondon of Northwest Mississippi Community College have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District II Football Team as voted upon by more than 2,800 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The selections for Northwest are the first in the school's football history.

Hibbler boasted the highest GPA of the bunch with a 3.57 in recreation, followed by Carpenter (3.36 civil engineering), Fondon (3.30 computer science), Young (3.30 general college) and Douglas (3.30 criminal justice).  

The Academic All-District II team is comprised of student-athletes from schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and South Carolina.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve (at least 50 percent of the team's games) with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

All five players will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
