ECCC Soccer Warriors Complete Successful Campaign
 October 22, 2012

The most successful season in the program’s history came to an end Saturday, Oct. 20 for the East Central Community College men’s soccer team which fell 2-0 to host Pearl River Community College in semi-final action of the MACJC State Soccer Tournament held on the Poplarville campus.

The Soccer Warriors, who qualified for post-season play by sharing the MACJC North Division title with Holmes Community College at 5-2-1, completed the 2012 campaign with a 10-6-3 record and a third place finish in the MACJC under head coach Kenneth Thompson. Thompson was obviously pleased with the Soccer Warriors’ success and their first appearance in the state tournament.

“The Warriors lived up to their namesake by playing the way that they had all season long, from start to finish,” said Thompson, who started the Soccer Warrior program in 1999. “They have been a great example of what a Warrior truly is, from their determined play to great sportsmanship to outstanding team support of each player and every player. They are to be commended for these qualities as well as their third place in the MACJC.”

Holmes edged Jones County 1-0 in the other men’s semi-final game.

In the women’s bracket, Pearl River defeated Hinds 5-0 and Jones County blanked Itawamba 1-0 in double overtime.

Pearl River squads were victorious in the championship finals held Sunday, Oct. 21. The Lady Wildcats defeated Jones County 2-0 and the Wildcats held on for a 4-2 decision over Holmes.
