VU Volleyball goes 3-1 at Lincoln Land event

Second win of weekend gives Harry 100th career win

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The NJCAA No. 8 Vincennes University Volleyball Team registered three wins at the Lincoln Land October Invitational Friday and Saturday in Springfield, IL.

After the Trailblazers defeated Kankakee 25-19, 25-20, 25-15 and dropped a 20-25, 18-25, 18-25 decision to host and NJCAA No. 7 Lincoln Land, VU put away Allen County Community College 25-22, 25-23, 25-19 on Saturday for VU Coach Brittany Harry’s 100th career victory.

The Trailblazers (22-7) wrapped up the invitational by topping Kaskaskia in a five-game thriller by scores of 17-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-27, 15-13.

In VU’s win Friday over Kankakee, freshman Kristen Murphy had 11 kills, while sophomore Tiffany Madura registered six. Sophomore setter Lauren Bratcher logged 35 assists, while sophomore Katlyn Anderson served three aces and had 13 digs. Additionally, freshman Tatjana Dohmen had five kills and 10 digs.

On Saturday against Lincoln Land, sophomore Janyl Zachary led the way with six kills and seven digs. Madura contributed five kills, one solo block and three assisted blocks, while sophomore Lynsey Higgins chipped in with five kills. Bratcher accumulated 22 more assists and pitched in on three assisted blocks. Anderson had 10 digs.

Harry’s 100th victory, against Allen County, featured Zachary’s nine kills and six digs, plus six kills each by Higgins and Dohmen. Bratcher turned in 33 assists, Anderson had another 10-dig match and sophomore Kaylee Clark served three aces and had eight digs.

In the Kaskaskia match, Zachary had a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs, while Higgins registered 11 kills and Madura had 10 kills, a solo block and nine assisted blocks. Dohmen contributed nine kills and 15 digs, Murphy logged nine kills and Bratcher had 48 assists, eight digs and five assisted blocks. Anderson provided 26 digs.

The Trailblazers host IU Kokomo Tuesday at the VU P.E. Complex in VU's final home match of the season. VU will then close out the regular season at the Oct. 27 Parkland Tri-Match in Champaign, IL.
