NJCAA Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 1-7, 2012
October 9, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Paulo Novo (MCC-Blue River, Mo.), Frankie Guzman (Suffolk County CC, N.Y.), and Saw Napolean (Century College, Minn.) have been named NJCAA Men’s Soccer Players of the Week for matches Oct. 1-7.
Novo put a shooting clinic against the Trail Blazers’ two opponents last week. In an 8-1 rout of Wentworth Military, the freshman recorded a hat-trick with three goals. Novo followed up with the Trail Blazers’ only two goals in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of St. Charles CC (Mo.). This week, Novo and the Trail Blazers will close out their regular season against Crowder College (Mo.) and Jefferson College (Mo.).
DIVISION I GOALIE OF THE WEEK
Playing a role in nearly every aspect of the game, Guzman led the Sharks to a 3-0 record last week. Guzman totaled 15 points in three matches, recording six goals and three assists. The freshman tallied a hat-trick against Division I Bryant & Stratton College (N.Y.), scoring three goals in the 4-0 victory. Thursday, Guzman and the No. 7 Sharks will host Westchester CC (N.Y.) in their regular season finale.
Shutting down the opposition, Napolean did an excellent job of preserving the Mighty Wood Ducks’ net in three matches last week. In goal for 270 minutes of play, the freshman saved 21 of the 22 shots that came at his net. Napolean denied all eight shots on goal from No. 9 Anoka-Ramsey CC (Minn.), securing a 0-0 tie. Century and Napolean hit the road this week to play at two non-member schools.
