No. 15 Lady Bobcats triumph; men's team holds off Co-Lin
October 4, 2012WESSON – The 15th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats moved one step closer to clinching a playoff spot in the MACJC State Tournament here Wednesday evening. The Lady Bobcats blanked Copiah-Lincoln Community College, 12-0. The Lady Bobcats only need more division victory to wrap up a playoff spot. The state tournament will be played Oct. 20-21 at the South Division men’s champion. The Lady Bobcats are now 8-0-1 overall, 5-0 in division play. Co-Lin falls to 0-11 overall, 0-5 in division play. JCJC got a goal from Madison Walker off an assist by Karlee Mullins at 12:40 and took a 2-0 halftime lead when Kelsey Cochran scored via a Cassidy Brinson assist at 44:15. JCJC poured it on in the second half. Kimberly Murray scored off a Lacey Guthrie assist at 47:42, followed by an Alexis Thornton goal at 54:39 to make it 4-0. Guthrie then scored at 57:50 and Cochran scored at 66:23. Danielle Fortin scored at 67:35 off another Brinson assist to make it 7-0. Brinson then scored at 69:21 and again at 70:35, off a Cochran assist, to make it 9-0. Thornton scored off a Morgan Pace assist at 73:09 and Temple Hughs scored off an assist by Murray at 74:59. Pace ended the scoring at 87:57. JCJC outshot Co-Lin, 42-0. In the men’s game, the Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-2 victory. JaMarcus Ducksworth scored for JCJC midway through the first half. The Bobcats also received goals from Zach Traylor and Austin May in the first half. JCJC improves to 2-6-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the division. Co-Lin falls to 0-11-1 overall, 0-5 in the division. The JCJC teams will host Mississippi Gulf Coast at 5/7 p.m. on Friday and East Central at 5/7 p.m. on Sunday. Co-Lin entertains Pearl River on Tuesday. |
