LA JUNTA, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College men’s and women’s soccer teams were shut out in matches against Otero Junior College on Friday in La Junta, Colo.

The WNCC women lost 3-0 to the 20th ranked team in the nation. Otero moves to 4-0 in Region IX play and 8-0 overall. The Rattlers also have not surrendered a goal in conference play. The Cougars drop to 0-3 in conference and 2-5 overall.

The men also played a tough defensive contest with Otero, falling 2-0. Otero moves to 4-1 in conference play and 6-2-1 overall, while WNCC drops to 1-4 in conference play and 3-6 overall.

Despite the losses, WNCC coach Todd Rasnic was pleased with his team’s defensive play. He was especially pleased with the women’s defensive effort.

“It was a good game and we played better but we still don’t have any scoring,” he said. “They scored off a corner kick.”

Otero had three shots on goal while WNCC was blanked on shots on goal. WNCC only trailed 1-0 at halftime before allowing two second half goals.
The men’s contest was another defensive contest. Otero took a 1-0 lead at halftime and then scored an insurance goal in the second half. The Rattlers had 12 shots on goal, while WNCC managed just one shot on goal.

Joey Rasnic recorded 10 saves in net before leaving the game with 10 minutes to go with a concussion. Justin Becerra came in and recorded two saves on the only two shots Otero took.

“We played well in the first half and 20 minutes of the second half,” Rasnic said. “Our defense played really well.”

The Trinidad men are 1-4 in conference play after falling to Laramie County Community College 3-1 on Friday. The Trinidad women are 0-2-1 in conference play.
