NJCAA Football Players of the Week - Sept. 12, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Terrell Lane (Hutchinson CC, Kan.), Deryck Gildon (Itawamba CC, Miss.) and Tyreek Hill (Garden City CC, Kan.) have been named NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Sept. 3-9.

The KJCCC (Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference) saw two of their players honored with Lane claiming Offensive Player of the Week and Hill taking the award for special teams. Defensive Player of the Week was awarded to Gildon.
 


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Terrell Lane – Hutchinson Community College, Kan.
Running Back – Norton, Kan. – Norton Community High School

Lane spearheaded the No. 14 Blue Dragon’s 63-49 win over No. 19 Garden City CC (Kan.) with six touchdowns. The sophomore rushed for 308 yards on 29 carries, crossing the goal line three times on the ground. Lane added six receptions for 42 yards and two touchdown catches in the effort. No. 14 Hutchinson and Lane welcome in Dodge City CC (Kan.) Saturday.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK   
Deryck Gildon – Itawamba Community College, Miss.
Linebacker – Arlington, Texas – Martin High School

Gildon anchored the Indians’ defense in a 22-10 victory against Southwest Mississippi CC. The sophomore led Itawamba with 10 solo tackles in the game and finished with 11 total. Trailing 3-0 in the third quarter, Gildon put the Indians on the board with a fumble recovery that he took 62 yards to pay dirt. Off to their first 2-0 start since 2007, Gildon and the No. 20 Indians travel to Mississippi Delta CC Thursday.


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tyreek Hill – Garden City Community College, Kan.
Kick Returner – Douglas, Ga. – Coffee County High School

The No. 19 Broncbusters fell short in a 63-49 loss to No. 14 Hutchinson but received a shot in the arm from Hill. Knotted up at 28-28 entering the second half, Hill took the opening kickoff 100 yards to give Garden City the lead. The freshman’s only other return in the game went for 31 yards. Hill and the Broncbusters will enjoy a bye this week before heading to Air Force Prep.
