NJCAA Football Players of the Week - Sept. 12, 2012
September 12, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Terrell Lane (Hutchinson CC, Kan.), Deryck Gildon (Itawamba CC, Miss.) and Tyreek Hill (Garden City CC, Kan.) have been named NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Sept. 3-9. The KJCCC (Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference) saw two of their players honored with Lane claiming Offensive Player of the Week and Hill taking the award for special teams. Defensive Player of the Week was awarded to Gildon.
Lane spearheaded the No. 14 Blue Dragon’s 63-49 win over No. 19 Garden City CC (Kan.) with six touchdowns. The sophomore rushed for 308 yards on 29 carries, crossing the goal line three times on the ground. Lane added six receptions for 42 yards and two touchdown catches in the effort. No. 14 Hutchinson and Lane welcome in Dodge City CC (Kan.) Saturday.
Gildon anchored the Indians’ defense in a 22-10 victory against Southwest Mississippi CC. The sophomore led Itawamba with 10 solo tackles in the game and finished with 11 total. Trailing 3-0 in the third quarter, Gildon put the Indians on the board with a fumble recovery that he took 62 yards to pay dirt. Off to their first 2-0 start since 2007, Gildon and the No. 20 Indians travel to Mississippi Delta CC Thursday.
