State College of Florida Products Selected in MLB Draft
June 7, 2012SCF Baseball product, Nick Goody, 6th round to the New York Yankees BRADENTON, FL- SCF Baseball product, Nick Goody, was drafted today in the 6th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the New York Yankees. This is the second consecutive year he has been pursued by the Yankees. Goody was drafted in the 2011 MLB Draft by New York in the 22nd round. Goody graduated from University High in Orlando, Florida with golden gloves his sophomore and senior years. There he helped lead them to their first district championship in 13 years. Goody was named a 2009 preseason Under Armor All-American. In 2010 he led SCF to the JUCO World Series Championship. In his sophomore year he had a 1.29 ERA and went 6-2 with 114 strikeouts in 84 innings. These were team leading stats in all categories. He pitched in the FCSAA Sophomore State All-Star game and in the Florida Collegiate Summer League where he was Pitcher of the Week twice, and was the MVP in the championship game at Tropicana Field. He was also the 2011 Suncoast Conference Pitcher of the Year. Goody chose to continue his education and play for the the LSU Tigers. In 33 games and 32.1 innings, Goody had a 2.51 ERA, 45 strikeouts, and just three walks at LSU this spring. He is currently with LSU at the NCAA Division 1 Super Regional tournament. LAKELAND,FL- State College of Florida baseball's former catcher, Austin Chubb, was selected in the 21st round by the Washington Nationals on Day 3 of the MLB Draft. Chubb went to Florida Southern College after playing at SCF. He was a first-team All-Sunshine State Conference selection for the last two seasons at FSC. In his senior year, Chubb hit .291 with eight home runs and 33 RBI. He had a team high 17 doubles. As a junior, he hit .295 with five home runs and 26 RBI. Chubb was part of the 2010 FCSAA State Championship team at SCF and went to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.
