NJCAA Football Players of the Week (Nov. 4, 2009)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 4, 2009) - Jasmine Hopkins (Fort Scott Community College), Carlton Johnson (Grand Rapids Community College) and Jessie Williams (Arizona Western College) have been selected as the NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Oct. 31 through Nov. 1.
Hopkins earns the Offensive Player of the Week award, Johnson receives the Defensive Player of the Week honor and Williams is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jasmine Hopkins; Fort Scott Community College (Kan.)
Running Back; Stanley, N.C.; East Gaston High School
Hopkins (5'8", 180 lbs.) helped Fort Scott win its first conference championship since 1974 with a 14-10 victory over Butler (Kan.) last Saturday. Hopkins paced the Greyhound offense with 167 rushing yards on 32 carries and a touchdown. Heading into the game, the Butler defense was allowing just 50 rushing yards a game. Fort Scott's win ends Butler's eight-year conference championship reign and also snapped a 20-game losing streak to the Grizzlies.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Carlton Johnson; Grand Rapids Community College (Mich.)
Defensive End; Muskegon, Mich.; Muskegon High School
Johnson (6'3", 235 lbs.) helped the Grand Rapids Raiders advance to the Midwest Football Conference - East Division title game by shutting out Harper 35-0 last Saturday. Johnson recorded nine tackles (6 solo, 3 assisted) and had four sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one pass break up. It was the second shutout of the season for Grand Rapids, who will face Joliet (Ill.) in the MFC - East Championship game on Saturday.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jessie Williams; Arizona Western College
Defensive Tackle (Special Teams); Brisbane, Australia
Williams (6'4", 330 lbs.) came up big on special teams for Arizona Western on Saturday in a 48-14 win over Glendale (Ariz.). In the second quarter, Williams blocked a field goal attempt by Glendale that was picked up and returned 78 yards for a touchdown. Later in the quarter he blocked an extra-point attempt by the Gauchos. He also had six tackles in the game, including one take down for loss.
