NJCAA Football Players of the Week (Oct. 14, 2009)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 14, 2009) – Casey Therriault (Grand Rapids Community College), Claude Davis (East Mississippi Community College) and Kelyn Pohlman (Coffeyville Community College) have been selected as the NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Oct. 8 through Oct. 11.
Therriault was selected for the Offensive Player of the Week award, Davis was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Pohlman earned Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Casey Therriault; Grand Rapids Community College (Mich.)
Quarterback; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Wyoming Park High School
Therriault (6’3”, 205 lbs.) helped the eighth-ranked Raiders remain undefeated with a 51-7 win over Midwest Football Conference foe Joliet on Oct. 10. He was efficient in completing 13-of-20 passes for 219 yards with three of those completions going for touchdowns. He also rushed for 132 yards on 11 carries and three rushing touchdowns. His great day included a 68-yard touchdown pass completion and a 60-yard touchdown run. Therriault currently ranks fourth in the NJCAA with 1,902 yards of total offense and ranks eighth with 1,413 passing yards. His 14 passing touchdowns also ranks sixth in the NJCAA.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Claude Davis; East Mississippi Community College (Miss.)
Defensive End; Lakeland, Fla.; Lake Gibson Senior High School
Davis (6’4”, 250 lbs.) helped No. 10 East Mississippi clinch the North Division of the MACJC with a 48-10 victory over Northeast Mississippi Saturday. The preseason All-American had three sakcs for -29 yards and another tackle for loss as part of his six total tackles on the night. He also was credited with two quarterback knockdowns in the contest. Davis has 38 tackles this season to go with 7.5 sacks and 7 tackles for loss.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kelyn Pohlman; Coffeyville Community College (Kan.)
Kicker; Burton, Kan.; Burton High School
Pohlman (5’7”, 147 lbs.) was a key part in Coffeyville’s 44-38 overtime upset win over then No. 13 Hutchinson on Saturday. He hit all six of his extra points and also split the uprights on a 20-yard attempt to finish the game with nine points. The win vaulted Coffeyville into the NJCAA / JC Football.com Poll for the first time since the summer of 2008.
