NJCAA Men's Soccer Players of the Week (Oct. 7, 2009)

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Oct. 7, 2009) - Heartland Community College's (Ill.) Javier Torres and Adam Garcia of Phoenix College (Ariz.) have been named the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Player of the Week. Colby Taber of Tompkins Cortland Community College (N.Y.) earns the Division III Goalie of the Week honors.

Javier Torres (Niles North; Morton Grove, Ill.) has scored at lease one goal in the past four games for Heartland Community College. The freshman forward tallied a hat trick against Springfield College in Illinois and scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Southwestern Illinois College. Torres currently leads the NJCAA with 48 points (22 goals, four assists) on the season.

Adam Garcia (Westview, Phoenix, Ariz.) earns NJCAA DI Goalie of the Week honors for the second time this season with a .333 goals against average on the week. The 5'10" sophomore notched nine saves over two shutouts. Earlier in the week, Garcia made two saves on three shots against Gateway. His overall record on the season is 10-0-3. |

Colby Taber (Charles O. Dickerson; Trumansburg, N.Y.) earned his third shutout of the season last week against Cayuga to be named the NJCAA DIII Goalie of the Week. The 5'8" keeper helped Tompkins Cortland Community College go 2-1 this week, allowing only five goals on 25 shots. Taber is now 9-3 on the season with a goals against average of just over one per game.
