Field of Eight Set for 2009 DIII Baseball World Series

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The field for the 18th annual NJCAA Division III Baseball World Series has been finalized and first round pairings have been released. This year's event will again be taking place at historic Mike Carter Field in Tyler, Texas, May 16 - 22.

This year's championship tournament features a number of talented and familiar teams. Five teams are returning from last year's tournament field, including 2008 National Champion Joliet Junior College, Ill., who will be making their fourth straight and ninth overall appearance. Richland College, Texas, will be making their seventh appearance since 2000, while Montgomery College - Germantown, Md., will be appearing for the fourth consecutive year and eighth time overall. Also returning to Tyler for the third consecutive year is Suffolk County CC - Grant (N.Y.) along with Manchester Community College, Conn., who is making their second straight appearance. 

Riverland Community College, Minn., and Brookdale Community College, N.J., are both entering the tournament for just the second time in school history. Riverland's first appearance was in 1998, while Brookdale qualified for the first time in 2007.

Niagara Community College, N.Y., is the lone team in this year's field that will be playing in the DIII World Series for the first time.
