NJCAA Baseball Player of the Week (April 15, 2009)
 April 15, 2009

Colorado Springs, Colo.- Tyler Vick of Meridian Community College and David Rollins of San Jacinto College are this week's Division I Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week.  Taking the Division II honors are Cody Gilles of Heartland Community College and Chance Mistric of Louisiana State University-Eunice. Dan Campbell of Joliet Junior College is this week's Division III Player of the Week.

Division I    
     
  Tyler Vick (West Lauderdale; Collinsville, Miss.) tied the single game home run record at Meridian last week against Shelton State with three.  He then followed that performance with two more later in the week against Baton Rouge.  With 17 home runs on the season and 34 on his career, he is now within two home runs of holding the career home run record at Meridian.  Over four games last week, the sophomore third baseman went 10-for-16 with eight hits, a double, five home runs, and a walk.  He also drove in 11 RBI's.

 

    David Rollins (First Baptist Academy-Dallas; Carthage, Tex.) pitched a complete game last week, allowing only two hits over seven innings.  The 6'2" freshman stuck out 10 and walked five on his way to earning his sixth win on the season.  He currently boasts a 3.00 ERA over nine games with 56 strike outs.
     
 Division II    
     
  Cody Gilles (Normal Community; Bloomington, Ill.) carried Heartland Community College in a hard fought tie against No. 5 Kankakee and a double-header against No. 10 Parkland. Gilles had a home run in each game, increasing his total to 10 on the season.  The sophomore first baseman also went 6-for-13 at the plate with six hits, four runs, six RBI's and two walks.  Gilles is now hitting .423 on the season with 41 RBI's.
     

  Chance Mistric (Port Barre, Port Barre, La.) pitched a complete game no-hitter last week for LSU-Eunice.  In a 12-0 win over Delgado, Mistric pitched all seven innings, giving up no hits and no runs.  The freshman right-hander had eight strike-outs and only one walk.  He is now 10-0 on the season, with a 1.86 ERA.
     
Division III    
     
 

Dan Campbell (Lincoln-Way Central; New Lenox, Ill.) posted a .765 batting average over seven games last week for Joliet Junior College.  The freshman outfielder had 13 hits off 17 at bats, with five runs, a double, a triple and a home run.  He also added nine RBI's and one stolen base for Joliet who went 6-0 last week
