NJCAA Softball Players of the Week (April 1, 2009)

Colorado Springs, Colo.- Toni Dance of Iowa Western Community College and Audrey Workman of Yavapai College have been named the NJCAA Division I Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 29. Lansing Community College's Melodi Murrieta and Glendale Community College pitcher Kirstin Linert have earn the Division II honors and Jillian Mills of Gloucester Community College and Sussex County Community College pitcher Sara Stocklinski are the Division II honorees.

| Toni Dance, a native of Queensland, Australia, broke Iowa Western's career homerun record previously held by Sara Walck in 2006 with 30. The sophomore hit 19 as a freshman and has recorded 11 so far this season. Last week, she went 8-for-11 at the plate and drew four walks. The center fielder scored six runs and was credited with six RBI's. |

| Audrey Workman, a native of Wickenburg, Ariz., struck out 12 in 11 innings pitched last week to be named the Division I Pitcher of the Week. The freshman allowed six hits and four runs, with only one earned, over two games. She struck out 12, with eight coming against national ranked Pima. Workman only walked four and currently leads the ACCAC with 20th victories on the season. |

Melodi Murrieta, a Superior, Ariz. native, finished the week with a .500 batting average and a .565 on base percentage for Lansing Community College. The sophomore left fielder had 10 RBI's and hit two home runs to lead Lansing to five victories last week. In a double-header sweep of Jackson, Murrieta went 5-for-7 with a home run and seven RBI's. She is hitting .448 on the sesaon with seven home runs and a team leading 37 RBI's. |

Kirstin Linert, a Phonix, Ariz. native, pitched a no-hitter and a shut-out last week to be named the DII Pitcher of the Week. In seven innings pitched against Pierce CC (7-0), Linert struck out 16 and gave up only one walk. The freshman went on to give up two hits and no runs, striking out 10 against Chandler-Gilbert (9-0).

Jillian Mills went 8-for-17 last week for top ranked Gloucester Community College. The Monroeville, N.J. native had eigth hits, with three doubles and two triples on the week. She drove in two RBI's and walked twice. In a sweep of Burlington on March 25, the sophomore went 4-for-4 with four hits, four runs and an RBI. |

Sara Stocklinski pitched the first Perfect Game in Sussex County Community College history on March 28. Sussex defeated Camden (1-0) and Stocklinski struck out five. The previous day, the freshman notched her second save of the season against Columbia-Greene (7-1), allowing two hits with four strikeouts and two walks. She is now 4-2 on the season with two saves. |
