Eagles rally past Gloucester County, win 12th straight
 March 10, 2009

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 9, 2009) - Austin Taylor's two-out single in the bottom of the eighth scored Trey Blackman with what proved to be the winning run in Tallahassee Community College's 6-5 win over Gloucester County (N.J.) College on Monday afternoon at Eagle Field.

TCC (21-7) scored twice in the eighth to erase Gloucester County's 5-4 lead. Tyler Hibbs worked around a one-out error in the ninth to nail down the Eagles' 12th straight victory and earn his fifth save of the season.

TCC rallied against Roadrunners' reliever Nate Young (0-1), who replaced starter Jeff White after seven innings.

With one out, Robin Rothenbach reached on an error by Gloucester County second baseman Jeremy Clark. Young hit Blackman then walked Aaron Kicklighter to load the bases for Luke Smierciak, whose sac-fly scored Rothenbach to knot the game at five. Taylor followed with his only hit of the afternoon and, fortunately for TCC, Blackman crossed home plate just before Kicklighther was retired in a rundown between second and third.

Earlier, Gloucester County (2-3) rallied from a 4-2 deficit to snag a 5-4 lead.

The Roadrunners plated a pair of two-out runs in the fifth against TCC starter Konrad Zielonka to tie the game at four on back-to-back hits by Bryan Miller and Adam Soley. An inning later, Ashton Jackson's one-out single put Gloucester County in business again. He stole second and advanced to third when TCC catcher David Cheatham's throw sailed into centerfield. Joe Perez singled Jackson home to put the Roadrunners in front.

Soley, Jackson and Perez had two hits each for Gloucester County.

After watching Gloucester County score twice in its first at-bat, TCC answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Marcus Grimaldi drove in two runs with a triple then scored on Michael Lashbrook's two-out single.

Lashbrook added a solo home run in the third, giving him three home runs and ten RBI in the last two games.

Grimaldi went 3-for-4 to lead TCC.

Ben Nobles (2-0) pitched a perfect eighth inning and earned the victory for TCC.

TCC goes for the four-game sweep over Gloucester County at 2 p.m. Tuesday as part of a day-night doubleheader, which includes a 5:30 p.m. tilt against Darton (Ga.) College.
