Lashbrook's record day leads TCC to 11th straight win
 March 9, 2009

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 8, 2009) - Michael Lashbrook hit two home runs and drove in a Tallahassee Community College record eight runs to lead the Eagles to a 16-6 win over Gloucester County (N.J.) College on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field.

Lashbrook put his name into the record books in the eighth inning when he hit a two-run homer off the Roadrunners' Mike Ney. He finished the day 3-for-5.

With the wind blowing out, Eagle Field turned into a launching pad for much of the afternoon.

Luke Smierciak's leadoff homer ignited a five-run first inning for TCC. After Thomas Troelstrup singled home a run, Lashbrook doubled home the first two of his eight runs. Trey Blackman's sac-fly scored Troelstrup to stake Smierciak to a 5-0 lead.

Gloucester County answered in the second on a three-run homer by catcher Adam Soley. Soley later hit a two-run shot and finished 2-for-3 with five RBI, one of five Roadrunners with two hits.

TCC added four more runs in the second, the first two on a home run by Austin Taylor. Troelstrup and Tyler Phillips added RBI-hits in the frame to push the Eagles' lead to 9-3.

Soley's sixth-inning home run capped a three-run rally and pulled the Roadrunners to within 9-6.

The Eagles put the game away with five runs in their half of the sixth, highlighted by Lashbrook's towering grand slam over the right field wall off Gloucester County's Craig Carroll.

Troelstrup went 4-for-4, tying a TCC record with three doubles. Smierciak, Blackman and Tyler Hibbs added two hits apiece.

Brett Hammaker came on in the second inning after Smierciak left with discomfort in his throwing arm. Hammaker went six innings to earn his fifth victory of the season.

TCC (20-7) has now won 11 straight games since losing at Manatee Community College on February 22. Gloucester County's record is now 2-2.

Game three between the two teams is at 3:30 p.m. Monday. Follow the action online at www.TCCeagles.com with TCC's live blog beginning at 3:15 p.m.
