 August 5, 2014

WICHITA, Kan. – As one of four unbeaten teams remaining at the 80th edition of the NBC World Series, the NJCAA National Team will take to the field at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium tonight (Aug. 5th) at 9 p.m. (Central) versus the Haysville (Kan.) Representing the United States in the tournament field, the team conquered the San Francisco (Calif.) Seals 5-1 in its first round contest on August 1. Conor Harber of Western Nevada got the win after throwing six shutout innings. A recent signee with Oregon, Harber (right) allowed just two hits and struck out eight. Cather Brent Williams of Seward County (Kan.) led the squad with two hits and two RBI.

Following their victory over the Seals, the national team defeated the Wellington (Kan.) Heat on August 2 by a score of 6-2 thanks again to strong pitching. Dalton Rentz of Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) led the dominance on the hill with five strong innings that featured just three hits and one unearned run from the Heat. Austin Moore of Lamar (Colo.) and Cameron Brendel of Glendale (Ariz.) finished the remaining four innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run.

Offensively, the national team scored all six of its runs in the bottom of the fifth frame thanks to seven hits, including back-to-back triples from Irving Lopez (Arizona Western) and David Petrino (Central Arizona).

Through its first two games of the tournament, the national team is batting .290 with five extra base hits and 10 RBI. The pitching staff has a collective ERA of 0.50 with 17 strikeouts and eight walks.
