Herkimer launches #4Pete campaign in honor of deceased Soccer MVP

HERKIMER, N.Y. – In an effort to create awareness for individuals with heart ailments, Herkimer College is leading a Twitter campaign in memory of Pete McAvoy, a soccer standout for the Generals who passed away in April. It's easy to join the campaign--simply raise four fingers, take a photo and tweet it with the hashtag #4Pete.

Peter McAvoy, of Scotland, was pivotal in helping Herkimer win their 10thNJCAA DIII National Championship in 2013 under Head Coach Pepe Aragon. The sophomore passed away unexpectedly last spring due to heart complications. McAvoy wore jersey #4 and the men’s soccer team will look to win their fourth consecutive championship this coming fall. In an effort to pay tribute, #4Pete began. All over the world supporters have simply taken photos with four fingers held up and posted them to their social media profiles in memory of McAvoy.
