Tyler wins Football Capital of Kansas Bowl over Garden City
 December 8, 2013

PITTSBURG, Kan. – In the newly renamed Football Capital of Kansas Bowl, No. 13 Tyler (Texas) cruised to a 47-21 win over Garden City (Kan.) Sunday at Carnie Smith Stadium on the campus of Pittsburg State University. The event was previously known as the Citizen's Bank Bowl from 2009-12.

Tyler's defense was the major factor in the contest, holding the Broncbusters to (minus) -2 net rushing yards while also recording nine sacks for negative 47 yards and recovering three fumbles.

Linebacker Larry Thomas led the Apaches with nine tackles, including five for loss, and three sacks while Will Coleman also recorded nine tackles and was credited with 2.5 sacks.

With the Tyler defense dominating the game, the offense stepped up and put points on the board with ease. On the ground, the Apaches looked to running back Terrance Taylor in the first half. The freshman had 14 carries for 67 yards and two touchdowns before the break with the Apaches leading 16-9.

In the second half, Apache quarterback Randy Price showed off his arm with three touchdown strikes. Two of the TD passes were home run balls to Lamar Carraway (55 and 72 yards) and devestated the Garden City defense. Price completed 14-of-29 pass attempts for 245 yards for the game. Carraway had a game-high 159 yards receiving on just four receptions.

Apache running back Chaston Bennett took control in the second half as the Apaches wore down the Broncbuster defense. Bennett carried the ball 21 times after halftime for a game-high 116 yards. His 21-yard TD with 2:42 left in the game sealed Tyler's first bowl victory since 2003.
