SYRACUSE, N.Y, - Nov. 22 – ASA quarterback Aaron Young (#11 right) threw three touchdown passes as the Avengers recorded a 23-3 win over the College of DuPage Friday night in the second annual Carrier Dome Bowl.

Young completed 17 of 26 passes for 218 yards and those three scoring passes as ASA, the nation’s 10th-ranked team, with its ninth-straight win. The Avengers, who have won back-to-back Northeast Football Conference titles, finish the season 9-1. The College of DuPage, which entered the game ranked 20th in the NJCAA, ends the season 7-4.

Young, whose 22 touchdown passes are the most in the NEFC since the 2004 season, got the Avengers on the board on their first possession. After forcing the Chaparrals to punt, ASA drove 79 yards in 1:46, highlighted by a 53-yard reception by Quinton Sullivan. Sullivan later caught a screen pass and took it 19 yards for the 7-0 lead.

DuPage’s Nick Bartolotta connected on a 27-yard field goal to make it 7-3 with 48 seconds left in the half but ASA’s Dillon Lawson answered by making a 41-yard goal with five seconds left.

The Avengers made it 17-3 on their first drive of the second half.  Young and Sullivan connected again on a 22-yard scoring play to cap an 8-play, 60-yard drive.

“The first touchdown was a screen and my linemen led me into the end zone,” said Sullivan. “The second touchdown wasn’t intended for me but I was in the right place at the right time.”

ASA added an insurance score with 1:35 remaining in the game with Young hit Dahon Taylor with a 15-yard scoring strike.

Defensive MVP Monte Taylor led an Avenger defense that forced five turnovers with seven tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles.  Rashaun Smith also added seven tackles while Chris Manns had five tackles and two sacks.  ASA finished with six sacks on the day.

Sullivan, the game’s offensive most valuable player, finished with 120 yards receiving on five catches. ASA running back Donavan Williams rushed for 73 yards on 15 carries. The 73 rushing yards gives Williams 1,024 yards for the season.

“We were able to win in different ways this year and this was a new way,” said ASA head coach Dennis Orlando.  “This game tested our patience but we stayed with our game plan and made some key plays that led to the victory.”

Dontrel Chance led DuPage with 92 yards rushing on 14 carries while Austin Howarth finished 14 for 25 passing for 125 yards.

Mike Lafenhagen led the Chaparrals defense with eight tackles while Devin Coney, a 2012 NJCAA All-America selection, had six tackles and a sack.  Jacky Dezir recorde two of DuPage’s six sacks on the day.
