2013 NJCAA Women's Half Marathon Champions: El Paso CC, Texas

CHAMPIONSHIP HOMECOMPLETE RESULTS

DALLAS, Ga. – El Paso (Texas) rode two top five finishes to victory Saturday at the NJCAA Women’s Half Marathon Championship in Dallas, Ga. The Tejanas’ effort at Silver Comet Trail earned them their second championship in program history – winning their first in 2007.

El Paso freshman Andrea Amaro was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 1:24:56.05. Amaro became the Tejanas’ third individual champion, drawing themselves even with South Plains (Texas) for most all-time. Joining Amaro in the top five was teammate Shannon Luevano. The freshman came in at a fourth-best time of 1:27:23.64.

Despite falling short of their third straight NJCAA championship, Iowa Central did see freshman Hannah Maina take second place at 1:25:49.32. Third place went to Vincennes (Ind.) freshman TaPring Goatee at 1:27:11.95 and Gillette (Wyo.) sophomore Reanna Jereb’s time of 1:28:01.07 rounded out the top five.

Finishing 20 points back of El Paso’s 15, Vincennes finished second behind Goatee’s third-place effort and two more top 20 finishers in freshman Chloe Heller (1:32:29.48) and sophomore Whitney Wiist (1:33:04.93). Gillette fell just short of Vincennes’ 35 points, finishing third with 36. Iowa Central took fourth with 31 points, followed by Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) with 63 in fifth.
