Top 10 matchup headlines action in Week 8 of NJCAA Football

NJCAA Football Week 8 Preview

With the autumn wind beginning to blow across the gridiron, three games on the NJCAA Football Week 8 schedule feature ranked teams going head-to-head. 


NJCAA Game of the Week

#6 Nassau (6-0) at #1 Georgia Military (7-0)

Top-ranked Georgia Military will face their fourth Top 10 opponent of the season Saturday when No. 6 Nassau comes to town. Playing their first opponent with a winning record this season, the Nassau Lions have a chance to prove whether they are a contender or pretender.

The Bulldogs of Georgia Military continue to pound opponents with a steady dose of running back Jovon Robinson. The freshman is averaging 177 yards per game on the ground and has 15 rushing touchdowns this season, leading the nation in both categories. The Bulldogs defense is led by sophomore linebacker St. Pierre Anilus who leads the team with 41 tackles on the year. Georgia Military has held five of their seven opponents this season to under 18 points.

Despite their balanced offensive attack, Nassau has a playmaker in sophomore wide receiver Antwane Grant. With 453 yards receiving this season, Grant has scored a touchdown on six of his 21 receptions in 2013. The Lions have also benefited from their exceptional play on defense. Nassau has held their opponents to just 194.8 yards of offense and 10 points per game this year.

#10 Rochester (6-0) at #15 Ridgewater (5-1)

Two of the top teams in the MCAC will face-off Saturday when No. 10 Rochester travels to No. 15 Ridgewater. After setting an NJCAA single-game record with 91 points against Minnesota State, the Yellowjackets of Rochester will try to light up the scoreboard again behind sophomore running backs Alexander Schliesmann and Charles Arnold. The Warriors will look to counter the Rochester attack with their defense that ranks in the top five in yards and points allowed.


#20 New Mexico Military (5-2) at #11 Arizona Western (6-1)

As the WSFL regular season schedule enters its final weeks, No. 11 Arizona Western will host No. 20 New Mexico Military in a key conference battle. Matadors freshman quarterback Tyler Rogers has been a dual-threat this season, leading Arizona Western with 1,078 yards passing and 278 yards rushing. New Mexico Military has their own star quarterback in Quinn Billerman who has thrown for 1,728 yards and 18 touchdowns during his sophomore campaign.


Northeast Mississippi (3-3) at #3 East Mississippi (6-0)

Despite boasting the top offense and defense in the country, No. 3 East Mississippi faces their first true test of the season Thursday when they welcome in Northeast Mississippi. Continuing the East Mississippi Lions tradition of stellar quarterbacks, sophomore Dontreal Pruitt has accumulated 2,071 yards and 23 touchdowns through the air this season. On the other side of the ball, Northeast Mississippi is led by sophomore quarterback Jerrard Randall who has a team-high nine touchdowns in 2013.
