Tyler (Texas) quarterback Matt Davis, Rochester (Minn.) linebacker Joe Strike and Scottsdale return specialist Teddy Ruben have been named NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Sept. 19-22.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Davis – Tyler (Texas)
Quarterback – Freshman
Less than a month after transferring from Texas A&M, Davis scored the game-winning touchdown in the final minute of the No. 10 Apaches’ 31-28 win over Blinn.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Joe Strike – Rochester (Minn.)
Linebacker – Sophomore
Returning interceptions 52 yards and 16 yards for touchdowns, Strike was instrumental in the Yellowjackets’ 48-21 upset of No. 15 Central Lakes.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Teddy Ruben – Scottsdale (Ariz.)
Return Specialist – Sophomore
In the No. 16 Fighting Artichokes’ 35-28 win over Pima, Ruben returned a punt 57 yards to pay dirt and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 96-yard kickoff return.
