BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (April 11, 2013)  - Sophomore right hander Wade Gies threw CCBC Catonsville’s second no-hitter of the season and the eighth in school history in an 11-0 victory over CCBC Dundalk on April 9.  Gies faced the minimum of 24 hitters in the 8-inning gem, allowing only two base runners on a walk and an error.  Gies struck out 7.

Brandon Grove tripled and drove in three runs.  Brian Flacco contributed 3 hits and scored two, while Mike Marsh, Brandon O’Malley and Mark Burnside had two hits each.

According to Nick Cicio, a former CCBC Catonsville student athlete and the current pitching coach for the team, “A no-hitter is a rarity and to have two in one season is unbelievable. It certainly is a testament to the hard work that the entire team is putting in this season.”

Earlier this season (March 14), Richard Hunt no-hit Dundalk in a 13-2 victory. Hunt allowed three walks and struck out 11.  Blake Overmiller supported Hunt with three RBIs and Mike Marsh had three hits and scored three runs in that victory.

Previous no-hitters were pitched for the Catonsville Cardinals by the following student-athletes:

Brad Milligan (1999) versus Cecil CC
Brent Hanauer (1999) versus Frederick CC
Blake Phipps (2003) versus Baltimore City CC
Chorye Spoone (2005) versus CCBC Essex
Doug Girdner (2010) versus Montgomery Rockville
Connor Hibbs (2012) versus College of Southern Maryland
