COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tavarsha Scott (Northwest Florida State), Ajha Edwards (Pima CC, Ariz.) and Regina Steele (Sullivan County CC, N.Y.) have been named NJCAA women’s basketball players of the week for games Feb. 11-17.

DIVISION I PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tavarsha Scott – Northwest Florida State College
Forward – Ringold, La. – Ringold High School

Scott came off the bench to spur the Raiders on to victory in two tightly contested games last week. In a 74-73 overtime upset of No. 6 Chipola College (Fla.), Scott was 8-for-11 from the field for 20 points and recorded a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with four steals and two blocks. The sophomore followed up with a game-high 30 points and 19 rebounds in a 67-62 win over Pensacola State College (Fla.). Despite not starting a game all season, Scott leads the No. 6 Raiders with 13.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.

DIVISION II PLAYER OF THE WEEK  
Ajha Edwards – Pima Community College, Ariz.
Center – Tombstone, Ariz. – Tombstone High School

The Aztecs went 1-1 in two games last week and were just shy of knocking off a top five opponent thanks to Edwards’ tremendous play off the bench. Edwards had a huge game on the boards against South Mountain CC (Ariz.), grabbing 20 rebounds – 10 off the offensive glass – to go along with 18 points in a 77-64 victory. Against No. 4 Mesa CC (Ariz.), the sophomore recorded another double-double with 20 points and 22 rebounds in an 86-81 double-overtime loss. Despite starting in less than half of the Aztecs’ games this season, Edwards is averaging a double-double with 14 points and 13.2 rebounds per game.

DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Regina Steele – Sullivan County Community College, N.Y.
Center – Ellenville, N.Y. – Ellenville High School

Cruising to five victories in six days last week, the Generals gave their opponents a steady dose of Steele. The freshman averaged 21.8 points, 18.2 rebounds, 4.4 steals and 5.6 blocks per game last week, recording double-doubles in all five contests. Steele’s best overall performance came in a 62-50 win over Borough of Manhattan CC (N.Y.) where she racked up 20 points, 18 rebounds and nine blocks. Averaging 20.3 points, 13.7 rebounds and 5 blocks per game, Steele ranks in the top five in DIII in all three categories this season.
