NJCAA Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Nov. 19-25
November 28, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Chris Jones (Northwest Florida State), James Pierce (Phoenix College, Ariz.) and Tyler Wood (Onondaga CC, N.Y.) have been named NJCAA men’s basketball players of the week for games Nov. 19-25.
A record-breaking performance and some improbable heroics handed Jones his second Player of the Week award of the 2012-13 season. Against Lee College (Texas), the Raiders’ 40-year old single-game scoring record was broken by Jones’ 49-point effort. The sophomore hit seven 3-pointers and capped off the night with a 75-foot game-winning buzzer-beater, giving the Raiders an 80-78 victory. On the week, Jones logged 34 points, five rebounds and three steals per game.
Pierce played a vital role in both of the Bears’ victories last week. Displaying his versatility in a 73-59 win over New Mexico Military, the sophomore recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Pierce averaged 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists on the week.
Enjoying one of the best games of his collegiate career, Wood led the Lazers to a 119-85 win over Schenectady County CC (N.Y.) last week. Wood was 7-of-12 from the field and 3-of-5 beyond the arc, totaling a career-high 22 points. The sophomore distributed the wealth in the victory, racking up nine assists.
