Rock Valley Defeats Top-Ranked Brookhaven to Win DIII Volleyball Championship

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Rock Valley College (Ill.) cruised through the tournament field at the NJCAA Division III Volleyball Championship in Rochester, Minn., to win the 2012 national title. The Lady Eagles clinched the title with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-10, 25-27, 25-18) victory over top-ranked Brookhaven College (Texas) Saturday in the championship match.
RVC (44-7) was dominant throughout the entire tournament. They defeated No. 7 Davidson County Community College (N.C.) 3-0 in their opening match and again posted a 3-0 over No. 3 Northland Community and Technical College (Minn.) in the semi-finals.
In the title bout versus Brookhaven (21-15), Tournament MVP Breahna Stewart had 41 assists. Kristen Kotch and Rachel Woody combined for 37 kills. Kotch, Woody as well as Tara Wogomon were All-Tournament team selections. Rock Valley head coach Abby Jenkins was named Heidi Hutchinson Coach of the Tournament.
The national title is the third for Rock Valley in the sport of volleyball. The program won back-to-back national championships in 1996 and ’97.
