NJCAA Football Players of the Week - Week 9
October 23, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Quez Johnson (East Mississippi CC), Jeffery Richardson (Louisburg College, N.C.) and Fred Franklin (Holmes CC, Miss.) have been named NJCAA Football Players of the Week for Week 9.
Locked in a shootout against No. 5 Northwest Mississippi for the MACJC North crown, Johnson rose to the occasion with a spectacular offensive performance. Compiling 495 yards of total offense, Johnson showcased his dual-threat capabilities. The freshman was 33-for-46 passing with 422 yards and four touchdowns through the air. Carrying the ball 21 times, Johnson gained 144 yards rushing and three touchdowns on the ground. Closing out their regular season Saturday, Johnson and the No. 3 Lions travel to Itawamba.
In the Hurricanes’ 30-0 shutout of Hudson Valley, Richardson played a major role in holding the Vikings to 66 yards passing. The sophomore racked up seven tackles, a sack and two interceptions. Richardson took both picks to the end zone but saw both of them called back due to penalties during the return. No. 15 Louisburg and Richardson have their biggest game of the year Saturday when they travel to No. 5 Nassau.
The Bulldogs earned back-to-back Special Teams Player of the Week honors, but this time it was Franklin boasting an exceptional performance in Holmes’ 35-34 win over Hinds. The freshman returned a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown in the first half. Franklin finished the game with 157 yards on three returns, averaging 52.3 yards per return. In their final game of 2012, Franklin and the Bulldogs welcome in Coahoma Thursday.
