NJCAA Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 24-30
October 3, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Juavanie Cole (Owens CC, Ohio), Daniel Niedezielski (Oakton CC, Ill.), Jacob Benton (Camden CC, N.J.), and Reynero Pacheco (Prince George’s CC, Md.) have been named NJCAA Men’s Soccer Players of the Week for matches Sept. 24-30.
Cole was named Player of the Week in Division I, while Niedezielski claimed the division’s goalie award. In Division II, it was Benton earning Player of the Week and Pacheco taking Goalie of the Week.
Cole led the Express to two blowout victories last week in both of their matches. In a 6-1 win over Muskegon CC (Mich.), the sophomore recorded a hat-trick with three goals on four shots. The next day, Cole followed up with two goals on three shots in a 12-0 drubbing of Lorain County CC (Ohio). No. 15 Owens and Cole will play at Cuyahoga CC (Ohio) Wednesday before hosting Ancilla College (Ind.) and Muskegon this weekend.
In two close matches this week, the Raiders benefited from some exceptional goalkeeping by Niedezielski. The sophomore denied all six shots at the Oakton goal against Prairie State College (Ill.) to preserve a 1-0 victory. In a 3-1 win over College of DuPage (Ill.), Niedezielski turned away four of five shots to improve his season record to 9-1-0. This weekend, No. 14 Oakton and Niedezielski will head to Rosemount, Minn., to play against Iowa Lakes CC and Dakota County TC (Minn.).
Benton came up big in two of the Cougars’ four matches last week. Against Ocean CC (N.J.), Benton assisted on both of Camden’s goals to reach a 2-2 tie. The freshman then finished the week with a hat-trick, scoring three goals and adding an assist to lead the Cougars over Raritan Valley CC (N.J.) 4-1. Camden and Benton travel to Middlesex CC (N.J.) Thursday before hosting CC of Morris (N.J.) Saturday.
Pacheco earned his second DIII Goalie of the Week award after another commendable week for the Owls. Despite suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mercer County CC (N.J.), Pacheco successfully turned away 11 of 12 shots on goal. In a 1-0 overtime win over Potomac State of WVU, the freshman recorded seven saves in a 100-minute shutout performance. Pacheco and the Owls will be back in action Friday to host Howard CC (Md.).
