COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Samhia Simao (Northwest College, Wyo.), Haylee Merrill (Neosho County CC, Kan.), Katrina Harrington (Brookhaven College, Texas), Cristina Lopez (Brookhaven College, Texas) have been named NJCAA Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for matches Sept. 3-9.

Simao was tabbed Player of the Week for Division I, while Merrill brought home Goalie of the Week in the division. For the second straight week, Brookhaven College swept DIII honors with Harrington earning Player of the Week and Lopez again taking Goalie of the Week.
 

DIVISION I PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Samhia Simao – Northwest College, Wyo.
Forward – Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Simao contributed 13 points last week to lead the Trappers to victory in both of their matches. In a 4-2 win over North Idaho College, Simao recorded a hat-trick with three goals and added an assist. The sophomore came back with two goals and two assists in Northwest’s 7-4 win against Salt Lake CC (Utah). Friday, Simao and the Trappers clash with Western Nebraska CC before facing off against No. 9 Laramie County CC (Wyo.) Saturday.
 

DIVISION I GOALIE OF THE WEEK
Haylee Merrill – Neosho County Community College, Kan.
Grand Prairie, Texas – South Grand Prairie High School

Providing the Panthers with 280 minutes of shutout goalkeeping, Merrill anchored Neosho’s two wins and one tie last week. The sophomore denied all four shots at her goal in the Panthers’ 0-0 tie with Northwest Kansas Technical College. Merrill then recorded two saves in a 2-0 win over Garden City CC (Kan.) and three more in a 4-0 victory against Pratt CC (Kan.). Friday, Merrill and the Panthers host No. 6 Butler CC (Kan.).
 

DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katrina Harrington – Brookhaven College, Texas
Forward – Prescott, Ariz. – Prescott High School

Harrington led the way for the Bears who claimed victory in both of their matches last week. Harrington tallied an assist in Brookhaven’s 8-0 win over Southwest Adventist University. Against Northeast Texas CC, the sophomore scored two goals and added an assist in the 6-0 win. Brookhaven and Harrington will be back in action Thursday against Paris JC (Texas).
 

DIVISION III GOALIE OF THE WEEK
Cristina Lopez – Brookhaven College, Texas
McKinney, Texas – Frisco Centennial High School

Earning back-to-back DIII Goalie of the Week awards, Lopez backstopped the Bears’ two wins last week. The freshman denied all four shots at her goal in blowout victories over Southwest Adventist University and Northeast Texas CC. Lopez will look to maintain her perfect collegiate record Thursday at Paris JC (Texas).
