September 5, 2012COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Deon Long (Iowa Western CC), Tiquention Coleman (Georgia Military College) and LeDarious Clark (East Mississippi CC) have been named NJCAA Football Players of the Week for games Aug. 27 through Sept. 2. Offensive Player of the Week honors went to Long, while Coleman earned Defensive Player of the Week and Clark took Special Teams Player of the Week.
There were few Reiver stars that didn’t excel in their 83-22 win over No. 15 New Mexico Military, but none shined as bright as Long. The sophomore hauled in 20 receptions for 246 yards in the blowout victory. Long had no trouble finding the end zone with three touchdown catches in the game. No. 7 Iowa Western and Long will stay on the road this week for a top 10 showdown at No. 6 Trinity Valley CC (Texas).
The Bulldogs cruised to a 48-12 win over Chattahoochee Tech (Ga.) behind an outstanding performance by Coleman. Picking off three passes in the game, Coleman provided Georgia Military with 82 yards of interception return yards and a defensive touchdown. Up next for Coleman and the Bulldogs is a clash with visiting No. 8 Snow College (Utah).
Clark made his debut with the No. 1 Lions a memorable one with two huge kickoff returns in a 35-15 win over Pearl River CC (Miss.). The freshman showcased kick returns of 58 and 74 yards, totaling 132 for the game. Clark’s return of 74 yards setup East Mississippi for the go-ahead touchdown late in the first half. Thursday, Clark will try to maintain his 66 yards per kick return average as the top-ranked Lions head to East Central CC (Miss.). |
