COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Kierston Smith (SC of Florida), Tiffany Madura (Vincennes Univ., Ind.) and Kelly Sommers (Harper College, Ill.) have been named NJCAA Volleyball Players of the Week for matches up to Sept. 2.

Two setters notched Player of the Week honors with Smith earning the award in DI and Sommers claiming honors in DIII. Madura was tabbed DII Player of the Week.
 

DIVISION I PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kierston Smith – State College of Florida
Setter – Port Charlotte, Fla. – Port Charlotte High School

In the first nine matches of the No. 13 Manatees’ season, Smith has excelled at putting her teammates in position to score. Smith compiled 250 assists in the first two weeks of her sophomore campaign, averaging over 27 per match. Smith also totaled 15 aces and scored multiple times from the service line in five matches.
 

DIVISION II PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tiffany Madura – Vincennes University, Ind.
Middle Blocker – Munster, Ind. – Munster High School

Madura solidified the Trailblazers’ front line over the past two weeks, anchoring Vincennes’ six victories. The sophomore racked up 27 blocks, 12 of which were solo. In a 3-0 sweep of Macomb CC (Mich.), Madura assisted on 10 blocks and tabbed two more of her own. The 6-footer also reached double-figures in kills in two of the Trailblazers’ eight matches and recorded six aces from the serve.  
 

DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kelly Sommers – Harper College, Ill.
Setter – Arlington Heights, Ill. – Buffalo Grove High School

Harper’s Kelly Sommers was chosen as the DIII Player of the Week after directing the No. 4 Hawks to six victories to start 2012. Sommers chalked up double-double performances in six of her seven appearances, dominating from the set and on defense. The sophomore registered 46 assists and 19 digs in a five-set win over McHenry CC (Ill.).
