Statement by Phoenix College Regarding the Death of Football Coach Land Jacobsen

It is with tremendous sadness that we must inform you of the death of our friend and colleague, Land Jacobsen. Coach Jacobsen passed away at John C. Lincoln Hospital, late Tuesday night, July 26, from complications related to an injury suffered at his residence.

More information about funeral arrangements and/or a memorial service will be forthcoming.

Counseling services are being provided to the members of our football team and athletic staff to help them cope with this tragic loss. 

Coach Jacobsen was set to begin his fifth season as head coach of the Phoenix College football team. During his tenure, he helped many players move on to four-year institutions and led Phoenix College to its first winning season and bowl appearance in over 20 years.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, colleagues and students of Coach Jacobsen.
