 July 11, 2012

Former Hood standout Ashley Rippeon named Assistant Coach

Frederick Community College Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Jandovitz has named Ahen Kim as FCC’s new Volleyball Coach.  Kim replaces Breanne Hathaway, who resigned following the 2011 season.   He will be assisted by former Hood College standout Ashley Rippeon.

“I am pleased to welcome Ahen and Ashley to the Cougar Athletics family,” says Jandovitz.  “Ahen has a very strong volleyball background as a player and coach.  I am looking forward to him taking our program to the next level in the MD JUCO Conference and Region XX.”

Kim spent 2011 as an Assistant Coach for Houston Baptist University, where he helped guide the Huskies to a 22-9 overall record and a third place finish in the Great West Conference. At HBU, he was responsible for opponent scouting, team statistics, film exchange, and on-court training of passers and hitters.

In 2010, Ahen assisted at George Washington University, where he worked with outside hitters and passers, and was responsible for the Colonials' video and statistics programs. Before GW, he was an Assistant Coach at Catholic University of America, where he worked with middle hitters and setters. With Ahen's guidance, the CUA Cardinals enjoyed a 16 game-win improvement with a 24-14 record. He also brings over five years of USAV Juniors coaching experience.  A four year starter at Franklin & Marshall College, Ahen graduated in 2007 with his B.A. in Sociology and American Government.

Rippeon is a native of Southern California and has been playing competitively since the age of 12.  She played at Hood College as a setter/middle hitter.  Her coaching career began in 2005 with the Washington County Juniors.  She has also coached at St. John’s Catholic Prep and Governor Thomas Johnson High School.  As a coach for the Frederick Volleyball Club, her 2011 team reached the playoffs in all of their tournaments, with three titles.

The volleyball team begins practice on August 1st and opens the 2012 season at home Tuesday August 28th against Baltimore City CC at 6:00 PM.
