NJCAA Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Sept. 21, 2011
September 21, 2011COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Prince Lapnet (Oakton CC, Ill.), John Denton (Northwest Mississippi CC) and Gerard Natale (Montgomery County CC, Pa.) have been named NJCAA Men’s Soccer Players of the Week for games Sept. 12 through Sept. 18. Lapnet was selected Player of the Week in Division I, while Denton was chosen Goalie of the Week. For Division III, Natale was named Player of the Week.
Lapnet (6’ 0”) showcased his offensive talent in three Raiders’ victories last week. The sophomore recorded two hat-tricks against Moraine Valley CC (Ill.) and Kennedy-King College (Ill.), scoring three goals in each match. Lapnet added another goal and five assists to finish the week with 20 points. Oakton and Lapnet will hit the road this week for matches at Prairie State College (Ill.) and No. 12 College of DuPage (Ill.).
The Rangers needed a spectacular performance from Denton to edge out a 3-2 win over Itawamba CC (Miss.). The freshman tied his career-high with 10 saves on 15 shots. Denton boasted a .833 save percentage and improved his 2011 record to 4-2. Denton and Northwest will travel to Hinds CC (Miss.) Saturday.
Natale (5’ 8”) spurred the Mustangs on to two wins last week over Bucks County CC (Pa.) and Manor College (Pa.). In a 4-1 win over Bucks, “JJ” Natale scored two goals on three shots. The sophomore duplicated his performance, scoring both of Montgomery’s goals in a 2-0 win over Manor. Three matches await Natale and the Mustangs this week including Saturday’s home match against Middlesex County CC (N.J.).
