COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Katie Gillmore (Clarendon College, Texas), Melaynie Domenech (Monroe College, N.Y.) and Tiffany McClain (Eastfield College, Texas) have been named NJCAA Volleyball Players of the Week for games Sept. 12 through Sept. 18.

In Division I, Gillmore was named Player of the Week. Domenech was selected Player of the Week for Division II and McClain was honored as Division III’s Player of the Week.

DIVISION I PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katie Gillmore, Clarendon College, Texas
Outside Hitter; Bushland, Texas; Bushland High School

Gillmore (5’ 10”) was the main source of offense last week for the Bulldogs who went 1-1 in two close matches. Despite falling to New Mexico Military Institute in four sets, Gillmore threw down 26 kills on 57 attempts. Defensively, the freshman tallied eight digs. In a five set victory over Ranger College (Texas), the freshman recorded a double-double with 27 kills and 15 digs. This week, Gillmore will lead Clarendon into matches against Western Texas College, Trinidad State JC (Colo.) and Adams State JV.

 

DIVISION II PLAYER OF THE WEEK  
Melaynie Domenech, Monroe College, N.Y.
Setter; Coconut Creek, Fla.; Monarch High School

Domenech (5’ 5”) is the first setter to garner Player of the Week honors in 2011. Quarterbacking the Mustangs to a 6-0 record this week and four wins at the CCRI Fall Classic, Domenech averaged more than 28 assists per set. In a three-set sweep of Nashua CC (N.H.), the nation-leader in aces tabbed 12 more. Domenech also totaled 100 digs defensively, averaging 16.67 per set. Monroe and Domenech open this week at home against Hostos CC (N.Y.) and will travel to Orange County CC (N.Y.) and Ulster County CC (N.Y.).

 

DIVISION III PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tiffany McClain, Eastfield College, Texas
Outside Hitter; Garland, Texas; Garland High School

McClain (5’ 8”) finished the week with three double-double performances as the No. 5 Harvesters went 2-1 against two Division I opponents and a NAIA squad. Squeezing out a five-set win over Texas College from the NAIA, McClain scored 16 kills and added 31 digs to the effort. Defeating Ranger College (Texas) in four sets, the sophomore registered 11 kills and 35 digs. McClain will look to continue her tenacious defensive effort this week as Eastfield heads to No. 3 Brookhaven College (Texas) for a Top Five showdown.
