NJCAA Men’s Basketball Players of the Week (Jan. 26, 2011)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Northwest Mississippi Community College (Miss.) forward A.J. Cunningham, Columbus State Community College (Ohio) forward Glenn Cosey, and Onondaga Community College (N.Y.) forward Jesse Gates are the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Players of the Week.  

Division I    


Northwest Mississippi’s 6’6” forward, A.J. Cunningham, supplied plenty of statistics to help his team go 2-1 for the week. Over the three-game span, Cunningham averaged 18.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest. Versus East Central on the 22nd, the Memphis, Tennessee native recorded his third double-double of the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds. A.J. is averaging a team-high 15.3 points per game on the season and is shooting a team-best 38% on 3-point field goals.



Division II




Glenn Cosey, a Flint, Michigan native, posted back-to-back monster games against Cincinnati State and Edison CC to lead his team to a 2-0 mark for the week. He averaged 32.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. Versus Cincinnati State, Cosey put up 36 points and 12 rebounds, adding three assists, two steals, and two blocks. Against Edison, the 6’0” forward recorded a 28 point- 11 rebound double-double with five assists. Cosey also shot 9-of-13 from beyond the arc over the two games.

 Division III    



Onondaga Community College needed leadership to push them past three opponents this past week and they got it in 6’5” forward Jesse Gates. Gates, who was also named Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Week this week, posted career highs in scoring and recorded a double-double. Versus Adirondack, Gates put up 33 points (his career high), then repeated this effort with 33 points and 10 rebounds two nights later against Jefferson CC. The Liverpool, New York native is Onondaga’s leading scorer for the season, averaging 18.8 points per game.
