Laredo, Collin and Tyler Share 2010 DI Men's Tennis Championship
 May 17, 2010

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- For only the second time in NJCAA history, the Men's Division I Tennis National Championship was awarded to three seperate colleges based on the final team standings. All three schools hail from the state of Texas as Laredo, Collin and Tyler all finished with 40 team points at the 2010 tournament held in Plano, Texas.

All three squads were able to fight through a tough tournament field with great singles and doubles play. Laredo's Cledeson Carvalhol was runner-up in #1 singles and Rafael Bugiga was runner-up in #6 singles. The duo of Felipe Baptista and Carvalhol were the champions of #1 doubles and Bugiga and Antoine Raffaelli were second in #3 doubles.

Collin's Darmain Hume was the winner of #1 singles play and Rodolfo Bustamante won the title in #4 singles. Matt Davis was the runner-up in #5 singles for Collin and also teamed up with Bustamante for second place in #2 doubles.

Tyler had two singles champions in Pier Pieracianni (#2 singles) and Paulo Roessle (#5 singels). Pieracianni and teammate Mario Jakovljevic took second in #1 doubles while John Devose and Pete Thomason took the title in #3 doubles.

The last time the NJCAA men's tennis title was split three ways was in 1978 when Odess (Texas), Midland (Texas) and New Mexico Military all shared the championship.

Laredo has now won - or shared- the last six NJCAA DI men's tennis titles. The 2010 co-championship is the 11th for Tyler in Division I competition, while Collin picks up its first title in Division I after previously winning four national championships in Division II (disolved in 2005).
