Leskovar wins VU's 1st tennis match at NJCAA national championship tournament
 May 10, 2010

PLANO, Texas - Freshman Matic Leskovar won Vincennes University's first

and only match of the opening day of the 2010 NJCAA national championship
tennis tournament Friday at Collin County Community College in Plano, TX.

Seeded seventh in Flight 1 Singles, Leskovar defeated Ethan Wilkinson of
Itawamba (Miss.) Community College, 7-5, 6-4, in a hard-fought effort.

"It was a tough match, but he battled through and got us off to a good
start," said VU Coach Ron Albers. "Wilkinson has a big lefty serve, but
Matic was able to get a couple of breaks in each set. The field is so deep
this year. We'll have no easy matches."

Leskovar was up a break, 4-3, in the first set before trailing 5-4. He
broke back to lead 6-5, then held to win the first set. He broke
Wilkinson's serve at 1-all in the second set and went on to win the match.

"I was a little bit tight, and then I opened up to have a good finish,"
Leskovar said.

VU assistant coach Brian Slack helped Leskovar smooth out his game.

"Brian said to relax and put some balls into play and I won three
successive games," Leskovar said. "It was hard for me since I don't want
to come in and I missed some shots."

The Trailblazers are seeded in all nine Singles and Doubles flights and
play nine matches on Tuesday.
