 May 5, 2010

TUCSON, Ariz. - Jones County Junior College freshman Arlette Cochran had quite a trip to the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Tournament.

Cochran, a freshman from George County, captured the consolation round championship in No. 5 singles with a pair of victories here Wednesday at the Reffkin Tennis Center.

Cochran defeated Erica Meza of Glendale Community College (Ariz.), 8-5, for the championship. Earlier in the day, Cochran beat Wrylie Finkle of Cowley County Community College (Kan.), 8-4, in the semifinals.

Cochran lost her first match of the tournament and then rolled to four straight victories to claim the title.
