JCJC's Cochran claims national consolation round title

Cochran, a freshman from George County, captured the consolation round championship in No. 5 singles with a pair of victories here Wednesday at the Reffkin Tennis Center. Cochran defeated Erica Meza of Glendale Community College (Ariz.), 8-5, for the championship. Earlier in the day, Cochran beat Wrylie Finkle of Cowley County Community College (Kan.), 8-4, in the semifinals. Cochran lost her first match of the tournament and then rolled to four straight victories to claim the title. As of now, coach Mark Easley's Lady Bobcats are in 18th place nationally and are on line to claim their highest finish ever in the national tournament. |
