Bobcat Netters Fall in Region 23 Finals
April 22, 2010MERIDIAN - Jones County Junior College fell in all of its Region 23 finals matches here on Wednesday. The Lady Bobcats dropped five singles' finals and one doubles' final. However, JCJC finished in second place and still qualified for the NJCAA Nationals, which will take place May 1-6 in Tucson, Ariz. This will be the sixth time in seven years for the Lady Bobcats to make nationals. The Bobcats fell in both men's singles' finals on Wednesday. WOMEN Meridian Community College won the women's title with 18 points, followed by JCJC with six, Gulf Coast with two and Itawamba with one. The top three teams go to nationals. In No. 1 singles, Mary Carole Kiewit lost to MCC's Anna Varic, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 3 singles, Tiffany Hudson lost, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 4 singles, Rebecca Rogers fell 6-4, 6-0. In No. 5 singles, Arlette Cochran played a 3-hour, 20-minute match, but ending falling in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. In No. 6 singles, Samantha Dickerson lost 7-6 (4), 6-1. In No. 3 doubles, Cochran and Jillian McNeese lost, 9-7, 6-2. MEN MCC claimed the men's regional title with 11 points, followed by Itawamba with nine, Hinds with five and JCJC with two. The top three teams go to nationals in Plano, Texas, May 10-14 In No. 4 singles, Eric Lynn fell, 6-0, 6-4 and in No. 6 singles, Dalton Delk lost, 6-0, 6-0. |
